Landry and Arcari's
Complete Rug Care Guide

Maintenance

Maintaining the beauty and value of an oriental rug is surprisingly simple. Regular vacuuming is the most important step, with care taken not to use a beater bar on the fringes. Occasionally, the back of the rug should also be vacuumed, followed by a quick vacuuming of the face. Even with diligent care however, soil and grit will eventually work its way to the base of the pile, where it cuts against the carpet wool. To avoid this abrasion, have Landry & Arcari professionally clean your rugs every 1-3 years, depending on the traffic endured.

Cleaning

Proper cleaning of your oriental rug is essential to maintaining its wearability as well as its beauty. Cleaning will soften and shine the wool as well as remove abrasive soil from the rug's foundation. We offer a thorough cleaning process designed specifically for oriental rugs. Unlike most carpet cleaners, our plant employs a state-of-the-art dry tumbler which loosens and removes the deeply embedded soil from the foundation of the carpet. The rugs are then immersed in a low pH. bath and scrubbed, rinsed and hung to dry. This process washes them thoroughly and restores the natural beauty and luster to the wool. We also offer deodorizing and Scothguarding. Bring your rugs in or call 1-800-649-5909 for our convenient pickup service.

Repairs

Cleaning also offers us a chance to examine your carpets for not readily noticeable signs of wear that can be conserved to prevent future damage. At any time you discover a small hole, tear, or worn spot, (don't ignore the ends and edges) bring your rug in to us for repair. Our experts specialize in antiques and can take care of minor conservation measures as well as complete restorations and re-weavings.

Padding

Be sure to have a good pad to keep your rugs properly cushioned and in place, for your safety and for the long life of the rug. At Landry & Arcari we carry different types of padding designed for use on floors and carpeting, and can advise you about which is best for your application.

Spills

Spills should be cleaned as soon as possible before they have a chance to set. Start by scraping up solids and blotting (not rubbing) up liquids (moving from the outside of the stain towards the center) with a clean rag or paper towels until dry. If dye runs onto the towel, stop and contact us. Flush area with cool water using a clean wet sponge and again blot dry. If stain remains, try the following guide, stopping when the stain has been removed. You may want to purchase our cleaning kit to have on hand. If at any time you feel unsure and would prefer to have the spot professionally cleaned, please call us at 800-649-5909.
