Introducing our exquisite Afghani Serapi Tribal Rug, boasting a stunning design and a rich origin story. This rug is crafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe in Afghanistan. The wool used in this rug is sourced from the Ghazni Province, known for its mountainous terrain, which naturally produces longer staple oily higher quality wool for carpet weaving.

After collecting the raw Ghazni wool, it is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically around Herat, where it is meticulously hand carded and spun into carpet yarn. The rugs are woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, showcasing a cottage industry type production.

Featuring an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, this rug is constructed with a blend of wool on a cotton warp and weft, ensuring durability and longevity. The double-wefted weaving technique, with heavily packed depressed warp, further enhances the rug's resilience.

The background of this rug is adorned with a captivating rust color, complemented by a vibrant blue border. The main color of this masterpiece is a striking red hue, derived from centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs. The blue color in this rug is achieved using natural indigo dye, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant, renowned for its vibrant blue shades.

As for the red color, it comes from natural madder root dyes, obtained from the roots of the madder plant (Rubia tinctorum). With a history dating back centuries, madder root dyes have been cultivated across various cultures to produce warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades.

Measuring at 9'11" x 11'10", this rug showcases exceptional craftsmanship with an impressive knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80. Based on the KPSI, we estimate that this beautiful rug boasts a staggering 1,335,490 individually hand-tied knots.

Immerse yourself in the rich heritage and timeless beauty of this Afghani Serapi Tribal Rug, a testament to the skill and artistry of Afghan weavers. Experience the captivating allure of this one-of-a-kind masterpiece for yourself, adding a touch of elegance and character to any space.
