Introducing a breathtaking Afghan Serapi tribal rug in a mesmerizing color scheme. This rug originates from Afghanistan, specifically from the Ghazni Province in the southeastern region of the country. The weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, skillfully handcraft this masterpiece using wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province.

Wool from Ghazni Province is renowned for its superior quality due to the mountainous terrain that naturally promotes the growth of long and oily wool fibers, ideal for carpet weaving. The raw wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is meticulously hand-carded and spun into carpet yarn.

These rugs are woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, creating a cottage industry-type production. The weaving technique employs an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, known for its durability. The rug showcases a durable cotton warp and weft, with a luxurious wool pile.

An exceptionally noteworthy feature of this rug is its centuries-old, all-natural dyeing process. The captivating blue color in this rug is derived from natural indigo dye stuffs obtained from the leaves of the indigo plant, also known as indigofera tinctoria. Indigo dye has been utilized for thousands of years and is revered for producing vibrant blue hues.

With a size of 8'1" x 10'10", this rug boasts a knot density of 80 knots per square inch. We meticulously counted the knots and determined that this extraordinary piece of art consists of an incredible 996,591 individually hand-tied knots in total.

Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage and timeless beauty of this Afghan Serapi tribal rug. Expertly crafted by skilled Afghan weavers, this rug exemplifies the artistry and craftsmanship passed down through generations. Adorn your space with this unique masterpiece, weaving together history, culture, and elegance.
