Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug, featuring a stunning Ottoman design. The rug originates from Afghanistan, specifically the Ghazni Province in the southeast. The weavers, mostly from the Esari Subtribe, utilize only the finest quality wool sourced from local sheep. The mountainous terrain of the region naturally produces longer staple, oily wool ideal for carpet weaving.

To bring this rug to life, the raw Ghazni wool is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat. Here, it is carefully hand-carded and hand-spun into carpet yarn, ready for the weaving process. Using traditional floor looms in their own homes, the skilled weavers craft this masterpiece with utmost care and dedication.

The rug features an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, intricately woven on a cotton warp and weft. The double-wefted construction and heavily packed, depressed warp weaving result in a truly durable handwoven carpet. Centuries-old all-natural dye stuffs are used to create the captivating colors, ensuring a vibrant and lasting appeal.

Measuring 7'11" x 9'9", this new rug boasts a background of rust, adorned with an ivory border. The main color that commands attention is a mesmerizing red, derived from natural madder root dyes. These dyes, extracted from the roots of the madder plant (Rubia tinctorum), have been used for centuries across various cultures. They yield a range of warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades, adding depth and character to this beautiful rug.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 104, we estimate that this rug boasts a total of 1,147,361 individually hand-tied knots. This meticulous craftsmanship guarantees both visual appeal and exceptional durability.

Embrace the elegance and charm of this Afghani rug, perfect for adding a touch of sophistication to any space.
