Arts and Crafts Rugs Gallery
The Arts and Crafts movement started in England in the late nineteenth Century as liberation from the degradation of quality and design of industrial revolution. The movement inspired innovative design in furniture, jewelry, and textiles. Carpets. The reformers who lead this movement aimed for a style that was practical and distinctly British. Carpets were among the movement’s greatest achievements.
Original Arts and Crafts rugs are rare since the movement produced a relatively small number of rugs. However, the designs and spirit of these distinct rug designs continue in rugs now being made in Nepal and India. This gallery shows rugs inspired by the designs of Arts & Crafts and Modernist School pioneers such as Voysey and Morton of Donegal, William Morris, and Frank Lloyd Wright
We have a few rugs of the Arts and Crafts period. The others are contemporary rugs inspired by Arts & Crafts designs.
