Formal Rugs Gallery
The rugs in this gallery are primarily based on the rugs of Persian workshops over the past thousand years. The designs are curvilinear, often intricate, and incorporate floral and vine design elements. The finest are inspired by such Persian rugs from Tabriz, Kashan, Isphahan, Sarouk, and Lavar Kerman. Others have similar design elements in a much larger scale. These are based on Persian Sultanabad and Indian Agra, Amritsar, and Mogul rugs. These Indian designs are themselves descendents of formal Persian rugs. Also included in this gallery are rugs of formal European designs, mostly those of Spain.
