Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, featuring a mesmerizing Mamluk design and a tribal style. This stunning piece showcases a rich navy background adorned with a medium blue border, which beautifully complements the main blue color scheme.
Crafted by skilled weavers from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is made from wool sourced solely from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally yields longer staple, high-quality wool ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to Herat, where it is meticulously hand carted and spun into carpet yarn, ensuring exceptional quality.
Using traditional floor looms in their own homes, the weavers employ an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type to create this masterpiece. The warp and weft are made of cotton, while the pile is crafted exclusively from wool. The double wefted depressed warp weaving technique produces a densely packed and exceptionally durable rug, guaranteeing longevity for generations to come.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this rug is its centuries-old natural dyeing process. The captivating blue hues are achieved using natural indigo dye stuffs derived from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria). This ancient dyeing technique dates back thousands of years and has been cherished by various cultures worldwide for its ability to produce vibrant blue tones.
With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 162, this rug boasts an impressive 1,870,970 individually hand-tied knots in total. This high knot count reflects the intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail poured into creating this magnificent rug.
Measuring 8'4" x 9'8", this rug is truly a statement piece that will elevate any space with its timeless beauty. Don't miss the opportunity to own this authentic Afghani masterpiece, guaranteed to be a treasured addition to your collection.
