Introducing our exquisite Afghani Serapi tribal rug! This rug originates from Afghanistan, specifically woven by ethnic Turkmen weavers, most notably from the Esari Subtribe. The design features a stunning combination of an ivory background and a light blue border, creating a captivating visual feast for the eyes. Made from high-quality materials, this rug boasts a wool pile on a cotton warp and weft, ensuring durability and longevity.

Crafted using the asymmetrical "Persian" knot technique, this rug showcases the expertise of the weavers. The raw wool used in the production of this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple, oily wool, known for its superior quality in carpet weaving. The wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically Herat, where it undergoes meticulous hand carding and spinning, transforming into carpet yarn ready for weaving.

The weaving process takes place on traditional floor looms in the weavers' homes, emphasizing the cottage industry production approach. The double-wefted construction and heavily packed depressed warp weaving contribute to making this rug one of the most durable handwoven carpets of today.

Our rug features centuries-old natural dye stuffs, resulting in its captivating color palette. The blue hues are derived from natural indigo dye stuffs, specifically obtained from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria). This plant-based dye has been used for thousands of years, successfully producing vibrant blue shades in various cultures worldwide.

With a knots per square inch count of 80, this rug showcases the meticulous craftsmanship invested in its creation. We have calculated that this item contains an impressive 885,954 individually hand-tied knots, a testament to the meticulousness and dedication of the weavers.

Our Afghani Serapi tribal rug pairs fascinating cultural heritage with exquisite craftsmanship. Its Afghan origin and design, combined with the use of organic materials, make it a remarkable addition to any home or collection.
