Our Afghani Harshang rug is a transitional style rug with a light blue background and a lavender border. Its main color is blue, giving it a soothing and elegant appearance. This rug is new and made from wool on cotton, ensuring durability and comfort.

The design of our rug, known as Harshang, has a rich history and significant symbolism. The crab design, often associated with the Harshang pattern, has been a prominent symbol in various cultures across the world. The crab's unique physical appearance and its connection to the moon make it a symbol of rebirth, renewal, and water's ability to bring tranquility to one's life.

Originating from Afghanistan, this rug is woven by ethnic Turkmen weavers, mainly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province, known for producing high-quality wool suitable for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is brought to the western side of Afghanistan, where it is hand carted and spun into carpet yarn. The rug is then woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, following an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type. The use of cotton warp and weft, along with double wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving, ensures the rug's durability.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 104, our rug showcases the weavers' intricate craftsmanship. In total, there are approximately 2,031,492 individually hand-tied knots, attesting to the meticulous attention to detail invested in its creation.

The light blue color in this rug comes from natural indigo dye stuffs, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant. Indigo has been used for centuries to produce vibrant blue hues, making it one of the oldest known dyes in human history.

At a size of 10'0" x 13'8", our rug is suitable for larger spaces, adding elegance and warmth to any room. Its timeless design and high-quality craftsmanship make it a valuable addition to any home or collection.
