Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, this piece showcases the timeless elegance of the Tabriz design. Handcrafted by skilled Ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is a masterpiece of artistry and craftsmanship.
The origins of this rug lie in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, renowned for its mountainous terrain that naturally produces longer staple oily wool of exceptional quality. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, around Herat, where it is meticulously hand-carded and spun into carpet yarn, ready for weaving.
Created on traditional floor looms in the weavers' homes, this rug follows the centuries-old tradition of using asymmetrical "Persian" knot type. Its foundation consists of cotton warp and weft, while the luxurious pile is made of 100% wool. The double wefting technique, combined with a heavily packed depressed warp, results in a rug that is not only visually stunning but also incredibly durable.
The medium blue background of this rug exudes a sense of tranquility, while the rust-colored border adds a touch of warmth and sophistication. The main color, a deep blue, is achieved through the use of natural indigo dyes. Indigo, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant, is one of the oldest known dyes used by humans. It has been prized for centuries for its ability to produce vibrant blue hues.
With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 162, this rug showcases meticulous detailing and precision. Based on our calculations, this item boasts a total of 600,481 individually hand-tied knots. Such intricate craftsmanship ensures both the longevity and value of this exceptional piece.
Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Afghanistan with this magnificent handwoven rug. Its traditional Tabriz design, combined with the finest materials and meticulous craftsmanship, makes it a truly remarkable addition to any space. Discover the timeless beauty of this rug and bring a touch of Afghan artistry into your home.
