Introducing our exquisite rug, originating from Afghanistan, and featuring a captivating Mamluk design. This tribal-style rug boasts a regal blue background that adds a touch of elegance to any space. The grapefruit border beautifully contrasts with the main blue color, creating a visually striking effect.

Crafted with the utmost care, this rug is made from wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, renowned for its mountainous terrain that yields longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, particularly around Herat, where it undergoes a meticulous process of hand carding and spinning into carpet yarn.

Ethnic Turkmen weavers, mostly from the Esari Subtribe, bring these yarns to life on traditional floor looms within the comfort of their own homes, contributing to the cottage industry-style production that characterizes these rugs. The use of an asymmetrical "Persian" knot technique and a cotton warp and weft, along with a wool pile, ensures the durability and longevity of this handwoven masterpiece.

To further enhance its allure, this rug is adorned with centuries-old natural dye stuffs, resulting in a color palette that is truly remarkable. The captivating blue hues, achieved through the use of natural indigo dye stuffs, offer a glimpse into the rich history of this dye, with origins dating back thousands of years. Derived from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria), this dye has been widely celebrated around the world for its vibrant blue shades.

With a knot count of 80 knots per square inch, this rug is a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship that went into its creation. By calculating the KPSI (knots per square inch) of this rug, we have determined that it comprises an impressive 66,387 individually hand-tied knots in total.

Measuring at 2'0" x 2'11", this captivating rug is truly a work of art, combining traditional techniques with a stunning design. Embrace the beauty and cultural heritage woven into each thread of this remarkable Afghan rug.
