Introducing a magnificent Afghan Mamluk tribal rug, boasting an exquisite design and an origin hailing from the land of Afghanistan. The background color of this rug showcases a serene sky blue, harmoniously complemented by a border embellished in a luxurious shade of gold. Its main color, a captivating shade of blue, adds further depth and character to this captivating piece.

Crafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug embodies their rich cultural heritage. The wool used in this masterpiece is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally yields longer staple, oily, and higher-quality wool, ideal for creating exceptional carpets.

To bring this rug to life, the raw Ghazni wool is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically around Herat. Here, it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and hand spinning into carpet yarn, ensuring the highest level of craftsmanship. The weaving itself takes place on traditional floor looms, primarily within the weavers' own homes, utilizing a cottage industry approach, which adds a personal touch to each rug.

The weaving technique employed in this rug is an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type. The cotton warp and weft provide a strong foundation, while the wool pile adds softness and comfort underfoot. Notably, the double-wefted structure and heavily packed, depressed warp weaving result in a remarkably durable handwoven carpet that is built to withstand the test of time.

This rug showcases all the remarkable characteristics of a traditional masterpiece, with centuries-old natural dye stuffs, ensuring an authentic and rich color palette. The captivating blue hues found in this rug are derived from natural indigo dye stuffs. Indigo, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo, is one of the oldest known dyes used by humans, dating back thousands of years. Its vibrant blue tones have been celebrated in various cultures worldwide.

With a knots per square inch of 80, this rug exhibits an impressive level of craftsmanship, indicative of the skill and dedication of the weavers. Based on our careful calculations, it is estimated that this rug boasts a total of 61,803 individually hand-tied knots.

Enchanting in both design and quality, this Afghan Mamluk tribal rug is a testament to the artistry and heritage of its origins. Its size measures 1 '11" X 2 '10", making it a perfect addition to any space craving a touch of elegance and cultural significance.
