Introducing the exquisite Afghani rug with a traditional etched design! This stunning piece originates from the ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe, in Afghanistan. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that naturally produces longer staple oily higher quality wool, perfect for carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is then brought to the western side of Afghanistan, around Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and hand spinning into carpet yarn. The rug is woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, a testament to the cottage industry production prevalent in the region.

Featuring the alluring combination of a blue background and a vibrant red border, this rug is a true sight to behold. The main color of this rug is a captivating blue, derived from natural indigo dye stuffs. Indigo, one of the oldest known dyes used by humans, is obtained from the leaves of the indigo plant and has been revered for its ability to produce vibrant blue hues for centuries.

The red color in this rug is derived from natural madder root dyes. Madder root dyes, derived from the roots of the madder plant (Rubia tinctorum), have been cultivated for centuries and are renowned for their ability to produce warm and cool shades of red, orange, pink, and brown. This rug beautifully showcases the rich tones achieved through the use of madder root dyes.

Crafted using the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, this rug boasts a knot density of 80 knots per square inch. Through our careful calculations, we have determined that this rug has a staggering 1,212,037 individually hand-tied knots in total, a testament to the craftsmanship involved in its creation.

Measuring at 9'0" x 11'10", this new rug exemplifies the durability and longevity of handwoven carpets. With its wool pile on a sturdy cotton warp and weft, and its double wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving, this rug promises to stand the test of time.

Immerse yourself in the rich history and cultural significance of this Afghani rug. Its traditional design and meticulous craftsmanship make it a truly remarkable piece to own.
