Introducing our exquisite rug, originating from Afghanistan and featuring the elegant design of Mamluk. This tribal style rug boasts a captivating background of deep blue, accentuated by a sage border. Crafted using high-quality materials, the rug showcases a new condition with its wool on cotton content. Its dimensions measure 5 '0 " X 6 '2 ", making it a perfect addition to any living space.
The skilled weavers responsible for this masterpiece are predominantly from the Esari Subtribe in Afghanistan. They source the wool from sheep in the Ghazni Province, renowned for its mountainous terrain that yields longer staple, oily, and superior quality wool for carpet weaving. Afterward, the raw Ghazni wool is transported to Herat, where it is hand carted and spun into carpet yarn. The weaving process takes place on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, contributing to a cottage industry type of production.
Employing an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, the rug features a cotton warp and weft, with an all-wool pile. Its double wefted construction, along with a heavily packed and depressed warp, ensures exceptional durability. The use of centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs results in rich and authentic colors.
Additional information reveals that the majority of these rugs are woven in the Karam Kul district of Andkhoi, where highly skilled weavers specialize in achieving higher knot counts. The yarn used for our rug is hand-spun, single-ply pern knot yarn.
The mesmerizing blue hue of this rug is derived from natural indigo dye stuffs. The indigo plant's leaves are used to create natural indigo dyes, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo. This ancient dye has been employed by various cultures across the globe for thousands of years, producing vibrant blue hues that stand the test of time.
With an impressive knot per square inch count of 162, this rug harbors a total of 716,134 individually hand-tied knots. Crafted with precision and care, it is a true testament to the artistry of the weavers.
In conclusion, this Afghan Mamluk tribal rug is a remarkable piece that marries traditional craftsmanship with timeless design. Its impeccable quality, cultural significance, and captivating blue tones make it an exceptional addition to any rug collection.
