Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, featuring a contemporary design with three big fish gracefully stacked upon each other. The bottom and top fish elegantly swim to the right, while the middle fish gracefully swims to the left. The background of this rug is a beautiful ivory shade.

With Afghan origins, this rug showcases the craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain naturally yields longer staple, oily, high-quality wool ideal for carpet weaving. This raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, around Herat, where it is handcarted and hand-spun into carpet yarn.

The weaving process takes place on traditional floor looms within the weavers' homes, contributing to a cottage industry type of production. Using an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft (with an all-wool pile), this rug is double-wefted and features heavily packed, depressed warp weaving, making it exceptionally durable.

Our rug proudly showcases centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs, with the color blue derived from natural indigo. Indigo, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo, is sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant and has been used for thousands of years to create vibrant blue hues in various cultures around the world.

Measuring at 4'2" x 5'10", this rug is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, boasting 80 knots per square inch. Our calculations estimate that this item features a total of 276,614 individually hand-tied knots. Made with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, this rug offers both luxury and durability.

Experience the beauty and artistry of this Afghan rug that seamlessly blends tradition and contemporary design. Add a touch of elegance to your home with this captivating piece.
