Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, featuring the beautiful Bakshaish design. This tribal-style rug is a stunning piece, with an ivory background and a blue border, creating a captivating contrast. Its main color is also ivory, adding to its elegance.

Crafted with utmost care, this rug is made of high-quality materials. The content consists of wool on cotton, ensuring durability and comfort. Measuring 11'8" x 14'4", it is a grand addition to any space.

Originating from Afghanistan, this rug is the result of the skilled craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that produces longer staple oily wool, ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then brought to Herat, where it undergoes hand carting and spinning into carpet yarn.

Woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug is a testament to the cottage industry type production that has been passed down for generations. The use of asymmetrical "Persian" knot types, combined with a cotton warp and weft, and an all-wool pile, ensures its durability and longevity. With double wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving, this rug is among the most durable handwoven carpets available.

The colors in this rug are derived from centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs. The captivating blue shade is achieved through the use of natural indigo dye, which has been utilized by various cultures worldwide for thousands of years. The indigo dye comes from the leaves of the indigo plant, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo, creating vibrant blue hues that stand the test of time.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, our rug showcases meticulous craftsmanship. Based on this KPSI, we have calculated that this particular rug boasts a remarkable 1,903,101 individually hand-tied knots, a testament to the meticulous attention to detail that went into its creation.

Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Afghanistan with this exceptional Bakshaish tribal rug. Its timeless design, high-quality materials, and expert craftsmanship make it a prized possession. Enhance your space with its beauty and enjoy its durability for years to come.
