Introducing our exquisite new rug from Afghanistan! This rug showcases the captivating Bakshaish design, known for its tribal style. The background of the rug is a stunning ivory color, perfectly complemented by a navy border.

Crafted with utmost care, this rug is made from wool on cotton, guaranteeing both beauty and durability. Each knot has been meticulously hand-tied by skilled weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region provides the ideal conditions for sourcing high-quality, long-staple wool from local sheep.

The raw Ghazni wool is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, around Herat, where it is transformed into carpet yarn through the traditional processes of hand carding and hand spinning. These delicate yarns are then woven on traditional floor looms, usually located in the weavers' own homes. This cottage industry approach ensures that each rug is infused with the personal touch of the talented artisans.

With its asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft, this rug exhibits the highest levels of craftsmanship. The double-wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique results in a remarkably durable and long-lasting piece.

To further enhance its allure, our rug is adorned with centuries-old natural dyes. The meticulous use of these all-natural dye stuffs creates a vibrant and authentic color palette that will captivate any viewer.

Additionally, the area of Karam Kul district in Andkhoi is recognized for its skilled weavers and higher knot count weaving. The yarn for this rug is hand spun using a single ply pern knot yarn. It is estimated that our rug contains an impressive 104 knots per square inch, resulting in a total of approximately 204,386 individually hand-tied knots.

Measuring at 3'0" x 4'7", this Afghan beauty is a true masterpiece that will add a touch of elegance to any space. Immerse yourself in the rich history and craftsmanship of this remarkable rug.
