Introducing a magnificent Afghani rug with a Mamluk design, handwoven by skilled tribal artisans. This exquisite piece features a maroon background that beautifully complements the beige border. The main color of this rug is a captivating shade of red, creating a bold and vibrant aesthetic.

Crafted with utmost precision and care, this rug is made from wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region yields longer staple, oily wool, known for its superior quality in carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is hand-carted and hand-spun into carpet yarn.

Using traditional floor looms within their own homes, weavers from ethnic Turkmen tribes, mainly from the Esari Subtribe, meticulously create this masterpiece. The weaving technique employs an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, resulting in a resilient and durable rug.

The rug features a cotton warp and weft, while the pile is composed of all-natural wool. The double weft and heavily packed depressed warp weaving contribute to the rug's exceptional durability and longevity, ensuring it withstands the test of time.

This incredible rug boasts centuries-old natural dye stuffs, giving it a truly authentic and timeless charm. The red color is derived from all-natural madder root dyes, which have been cultivated for centuries and used by various cultures around the world. Madder root dyes are known for producing warm and cool shades of red, orange, pink, and brown.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 104, this rug exhibits the remarkable craftsmanship of its weavers. By calculating the KPSI, we estimate that this rug is composed of an impressive 332,382 individually hand-tied knots.

Measuring at 3'10" x 5'10", this Afghani Mamluk tribal rug is a true masterpiece that will add elegance and cultural richness to any space. Immerse yourself in the history and beauty of this incredible rug, which reflects the artistry and tradition of the Afghan weavers who brought it to life.
