Introducing our exquisite Afghan Village rug from Afghanistan! This tribal-style rug features a maroon background with a brown border and a vibrant red main color. Crafted by highly skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, mostly hailing from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is a testimony to their exceptional craftsmanship.

The wool used for this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally yields longer staple, oily, and higher-quality wool, perfect for carpet weaving. After gathering the raw Ghazni wool, it is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically Herat, where it is hand carted and spun into carpet yarns.

This rug is meticulously created on traditional floor looms, right in the weavers' homes, showcasing the beauty of cottage industry production. It features an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type with a cotton warp and weft, while the pile is made entirely of wool. The double weft and heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique employed in its creation make this rug incredibly durable and long-lasting.

With a rich history dating back centuries, this rug is dyed using all-natural dye stuffs. The captivating red color in this particular rug is derived from natural madder root dyes. The madder plant, scientifically known as Rubia tinctorum, has been cultivated for centuries, and its roots are used to produce a range of warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades. This traditional dyeing method has been embraced by various cultures worldwide.

Measuring at 1'3" x 1'10", this Afghan Village rug showcases a remarkable knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80. Based on this KPSI measurement, we have calculated that there are 26,080 individually hand-tied knots in total, attesting to the exceptional level of detail and craftsmanship imbued within this rug.

Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage and artistic tradition of Afghanistan with this one-of-a-kind Afghan Village rug. Its breathtaking design and impeccable construction make it a treasure worth cherishing for generations to come.
