Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, featuring a captivating Orca Fish design, this contemporary piece is sure to add a touch of sophistication to any space. Crafted with precision and skill, this rug is a true work of art.

Originating from Afghanistan, this rug is the result of the expert craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this masterpiece comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that produces longer staple oily higher quality wool, ideal for carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is carefully transported to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically around Herat, where it undergoes the intricate process of being hand carted and hand spun into carpet yarn. Woven on traditional floor looms, often in the weaver's own home or cottage industry setting, this rug is a testament to the rich history and cultural heritage of the region.

Featuring an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft with an all-wool pile, this rug is built to withstand the test of time. The double-wefted weaving technique, along with its heavily packed depressed warp, ensures durability and longevity, making it one of the most durable handwoven carpets available.

As for the colors, the main color of this rug is a mesmerizing medium blue, while the border showcases a striking rust shade. The use of natural indigo dye stuffs gives this rug its exquisite blue hue. Natural indigo dyes, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant, have a long history dating back thousands of years and have been widely used in various cultures around the world to produce vibrant blue colors.

Measuring at 6'1" x 8'9", this new rug is made from wool on cotton. With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, we calculated that this rug is made up of a total of 605,780 individually hand-tied knots, highlighting the intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Embrace the beauty and elegance of this Afghan rug, showcasing the talent and cultural richness of its weavers. Add a touch of sophistication and artistry to your space with this remarkable piece.
