Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug with a captivating design known as Bijar, a true tribal masterpiece. This rug portrays the rich cultural heritage of Afghanistan with its stunning combination of a denim background and a peach border accentuating the beauty of the intricate patterns.

Crafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug showcases their expertise and passion for their craft. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain naturally produces longer staple, oily wool of higher quality for carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is meticulously hand-carded and spun into carpet yarn. To ensure utmost durability and longevity, this rug is woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, following a cottage industry type production.

Utilizing the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, the intricate patterns and designs take shape on a cotton warp and weft with a luxuriously soft all-wool pile. The double wefted and heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique used in this rug makes it one of the most durable handwoven carpets in existence.

Centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs are employed to achieve the mesmerizing color palette of this rug. For instance, the captivating blue hue is created using natural indigo dye, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant. Indigo dye has a remarkable history, dating back thousands of years, and has been widely cherished for its ability to produce vibrant blue shades.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, this rug boasts a remarkable level of craftsmanship. In fact, we have determined that our rug contains an impressive 927,596 individually hand-tied knots, exemplifying the meticulous attention to detail put into its creation.

Measuring 8'1" x 10'1", this Afghani Bijar rug is not just a stunning work of art but also an investment in quality and craftsmanship. Add a touch of tribal elegance to your space with this exceptional piece.
