Introducing our exquisite Afghani Serapi tribal rug, featuring a captivating design that showcases the rich heritage of its origin. Handcrafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, most of whom belong to the Esari subtribe, this rug is a testament to their artistry and craftsmanship.

The rug is made from high-quality wool sourced from sheep residing in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that produces longer staple oily wool ideal for carpet weaving. This raw Ghazni wool is then transported to Herat, a city on the western side of Afghanistan. Here, it undergoes a meticulous process of hand carding and spinning, transforming it into carpet yarn, ready to be woven.

Utilizing traditional floor looms, often in the weavers' own homes, this rug employs an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, with a cotton warp and weft and a wool pile. As a result of the double wefted and heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique, this rug possesses exceptional durability, ensuring its longevity for generations to come.

A harmonious blend of ivory and light blue hues adorns this rug, creating an elegant and timeless aesthetic. The ivory background serves as a canvas for the intricate tribal motifs and geometric patterns that define the serapi design, adding depth and character to any space.

True to its heritage, this rug is dyed using centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs, including natural indigo. The blue color, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant, has a history dating back thousands of years and has been cherished in various cultures worldwide for its vibrant and enduring qualities.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, this rug showcases remarkable attention to detail. By calculating the KPSI, we estimate that this rug boasts an impressive 1,536,390 individually hand-tied knots in total, attesting to the painstaking dedication invested in its creation.

Measuring at 10'0" x 13'6", this magnificent rug is a true masterpiece, embodying the rich cultural heritage of Afghanistan and the exceptional skills of its weavers. A symbol of elegance, durability, and artistry, this Afghani Serapi tribal rug is a captivating addition to any discerning collector's repertoire.
