We present to you a magnificent rug from Afghanistan, with a delightful Arabesque Bijar design. This transitional style rug features a denim background with a charming rust border, complemented by a captivating main color of blue. The rug is crafted from high-quality, new wool on a cotton foundation, ensuring both durability and comfort.

Measuring 6 feet 4 inches in width and 7 feet 5 inches in length, this rug is skillfully woven by ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple, oily wool, ideal for carpet weaving.

The wool is hand carted and hand spun in Herat, located on the western side of Afghanistan. The carpet yarn, ready for weaving, is then brought to the weavers' homes, where they use traditional floor looms to create this masterpiece. The weaving technique employed is an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, resulting in a durable and visually striking rug.

Centuries-old all-natural dye stuffs are utilized to achieve the rich blue color in this rug. Natural indigo dye, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria), is renowned for its vibrant and timeless blue hues. This dye has been used by various cultures for thousands of years, and its presence adds to the rug's allure.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 104, this rug exhibits exceptional craftsmanship. Calculating the KPSI, we estimate that this rug boasts an impressive 698,220 individually hand-tied knots. This intricate detailing speaks to the skill and dedication of the talented weavers, predominantly from the Karam Kul district of Andkhoi.

Experience the beauty of this Afghani rug with its Arabesque Bijar design. Its exceptional quality, unique style, and remarkable attention to detail make it a captivating addition to any space.
