Introducing our exquisite Afghani Agra rug, crafted with precision by ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, renowned for its mountainous terrain that produces longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and hand spinning into carpet yarn.

This rug showcases the traditional Agra design, featuring a light blue background and a rust border that adds a touch of elegance. Its authentic character is enhanced by the skilled use of an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type on a cotton warp and weft, with all-wool pile. The painstaking craftsmanship is evident in the double-wefted, heavily packed, depressed warp weaving technique, resulting in a remarkably durable and long-lasting handwoven carpet.

The centuries-old dyeing process of this rug incorporates all-natural dye stuffs, culminating in a breathtaking blue hue derived from natural indigo dye sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria). Indigo, with its rich history spanning thousands of years, has been widely celebrated for its ability to produce vivid blue tones in various cultures across the globe.

Adorned with 80 knots per square inch, this rug boasts a stunning level of intricacy and detail. Upon careful calculation based on the KPSI (knots per square inch) measurement, we estimate that this extraordinary piece comprises a staggering 902,869 individually hand-tied knots.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of this Afghani Agra rug, lovingly created by skilled weavers from the Esari Subtribe. Its captivating design, expert craftsmanship, and use of high-quality materials make it a remarkable addition to any interior decor.
