Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug, featuring a stunning arabesque design that showcases the rich heritage and traditional craftsmanship of this region. With its deep blue background and vibrant red border, this rug emanates a timeless elegance that will elevate any space it graces.
Crafted by skilled Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is the result of centuries-old weaving techniques passed down through generations. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, renowned for its mountainous terrain that produces longer staple, oily, and high-quality wool perfect for carpet weaving.
The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan near Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of being hand-carded and hand-spun into carpet yarn. Woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug represents the essence of cottage industry production, preserving the authenticity and artistry of Afghan rug weaving.
Employing the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and featuring a cotton warp and weft with an all-wool pile, this rug is not only visually captivating but also exceptionally durable. The weaving technique utilized includes a double-wefted, heavily packed, depressed warp, ensuring longevity and endurance. Each knot in this rug has been expertly tied by hand, resulting in a remarkable density of 80 knots per square inch. In fact, our calculations indicate that this rug boasts a total of 179,564 individually hand-tied knots.
Embracing the beauty of natural dyeing, the captivating blue color of this rug is derived from the leaves of the indigo plant, known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo. This ancient dye has been used for thousands of years across various cultures to produce vibrant blue hues, adding depth and character to this magnificent rug.
Complementing the enchanting blue, the red in this rug comes from natural madder root dyes. Madder root, scientifically known as Rubia tinctorum, has a rich history as a dyeing agent and has been cultivated for centuries worldwide. This versatile dye can create a range of warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades, adding visual warmth and balance to the overall design.
Measuring 2'8" x 5'11" in size, this rug is an exquisite addition to any interior space. Its meticulously handcrafted composition of wool on cotton ensures a luxurious underfoot feel and contributes to its long-lasting beauty.
Own a piece of history and artistry with this exceptional Afghani rug. Let its intricate design, rich colors, and impeccable craftsmanship bring a touch of elegance to your home or space.
