Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, featuring a stunning Arabesque design. The background of this transitional-style rug is a captivating ocean shade, complemented by a sage border. Crafted with care, this rug is made from all-natural materials, with a wool pile on a cotton warp and weft.

This rug originates from the skilled hands of ethnic Turkmen weavers, mainly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this masterpiece is sourced from sheep living in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple, oily wool, which is ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, where it is hand-carded and spun into carpet yarn, ready for the weaving process.

The weaving of this rug takes place on traditional floor looms, often within the weavers' own homes, contributing to a cottage industry atmosphere. Asymmetrical "Persian" knots are utilized, resulting in a durable and resilient product. The weaving technique includes a double weft and heavily packed depressed warp, ensuring longevity and strength.

Our rug showcases centuries-old natural dye stuffs, incorporating the vibrant color blue, which comes from the use of indigofera tinctoria, also known as true indigo. Natural indigo dyes have a rich history dating back thousands of years and have been cherished by various cultures for their ability to produce captivating blue hues.

Calculating the knots per square inch (KPSI) of this rug, we have determined that it boasts an impressive 162 knots. With this measurement, we estimate that a total of 812,904 individually hand-tied knots adorn this remarkable piece.

Measuring at 5'0" by 7'0", this rug is a true testament to the craftsmanship and artistry of its Afghan makers. Embrace the beauty and heritage of this Afghan masterpiece, and add a touch of elegance to your space.
