Introducing the striking Afghani rug with a beautiful Arabesque design. This tribal-style rug features a medium blue background and a rust border, creating a captivating contrast.
Originating from Afghanistan, this rug is woven by ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province, which benefits from mountainous terrain known for its longer staple, oily, and higher-quality wool for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then brought to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is hand carted and hand spun into carpet yarn.
Crafted on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug showcases the traditional asymmetrical "Persian" knot type. The warp and weft materials consist of cotton, while the pile is made of wool. The double wefting and heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique result in a remarkably durable handwoven carpet that will withstand the test of time.
One of the remarkable features of this rug is its use of centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs, offering an authentic and historical touch. For the stunning blue color, natural indigo dyes derived from the leaves of the indigo plant, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo, are used. This dyeing process has been employed by various cultures worldwide for thousands of years, producing vibrant blue hues that stand out in any space.
With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, this rug showcases the meticulous craftsmanship of the weavers. In total, this item boasts an impressive 2,222,786 individually hand-tied knots, meticulously woven to create its intricate pattern.
Update: Additional information about the rug:
Most of these rugs are woven in Aqucha and Mazar Sharif using 2-ply yarn per knot. This ensures a robust and enduring quality in the rug's construction.
With its rich history, exceptional craftsmanship, and stunning design, this Afghani rug is a timeless piece that will bring elegance and character to any space.
