Introducing our exquisite Afghani Bakshaish tribal rug, featuring a captivating design. This rug originates from Afghanistan, specifically crafted by talented ethnic Turkmen weavers, hailing from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, renowned for producing longer staple oily wool of superior quality for carpet weaving.
To ensure utmost authenticity, the raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is meticulously hand-carded and hand-spun into carpet yarn. The weaving process takes place on traditional floor looms, within the weavers' own homes, contributing to the charming cottage industry production style.
Featuring an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft, this rug exhibits exceptional durability. The pile, composed entirely of wool, is densely packed with a double wefted, heavily depressed warp weaving technique. This traditional method ensures the longevity and sturdiness that can only be found in the most resilient handwoven carpets.
Adding to its allure, this Afghani Bakshaish tribal rug boasts centuries-old natural dye substances, lending it a timeless and authentic aesthetic. The design showcases an ivory background adorned with a navy border, seamlessly blending traditional patterns and motifs.
Measuring a generous size of 12'6" x 15'7", this rug encompasses a remarkable number of individually hand-tied knots. With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, we have calculated that this remarkable piece consists of a staggering 2,216,854 meticulously crafted knots in total.
Embrace the rich heritage and undeniable craftsmanship presented in this Afghani Bakshaish tribal rug, showcasing the artistry and cultural traditions of Afghanistan. Handwoven with passion and precision, this rug is an ideal addition to any space, promising beauty, durability, and a touch of history.
