Introducing our exquisite Afghan rug, featuring a captivating Bakshaish Willow design. This tribal-style rug has a mesmerizing medium blue background adorned with a charming green border. Crafted with precision and care, this rug showcases the true artistry of Afghan weavers.
Originating from the southern regions of Afghanistan, this rug is meticulously hand-woven by ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in its creation is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province, renowned for its mountainous terrain conducive to the production of high-quality, long-staple, and oily wool.
Once the raw Ghazni wool reaches the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, it undergoes a meticulous process of hand carting and hand spinning into yarn. The weaving takes place on traditional floor looms, often in the weavers' homes, exemplifying the cottage industry approach.
Durable and built to withstand the test of time, this rug boasts an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type. Its foundation is created using cotton warp and weft, while the sumptuous pile is composed entirely of wool. The weaving technique involves a double weft, resulting in a densely packed, depressed warp structure, ensuring exceptional sturdiness.
A testament to the artistry of the past, this rug features centuries-old all-natural dye stuffs. The captivating blue hues are derived from natural indigo dye, sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria). Utilized by humans for thousands of years, indigo is renowned for its ability to produce vibrant blue shades.
With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 162, our calculations reveal that this rug boasts an astonishing 564,518 individually hand-tied knots. This meticulous craftsmanship ensures a luxurious and visually stunning addition to any space.
Immerse yourself in the rich legacy of Afghan rug weaving with this magnificent piece.
