Introducing the exquisite Afghan Boteh Tribal Rug! Originating from Afghanistan, this stunning rug showcases the traditional Boteh design, characterized by its gracefully curving paisley motifs. The background of this rug features a deep navy color, while the border is adorned with a warm rust hue.

Crafted by skilled Turkmen weavers, most notably from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is a masterpiece of Afghan craftsmanship. The wool used in its creation comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain produces longer staple, oily wool ideal for carpet weaving.

To produce this rug, the raw Ghazni wool is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically around Herat. Here, the wool is meticulously hand carded and spun into carpet yarn, getting it ready for weaving. The weaving process takes place on traditional floor looms in the comfort of people's own homes, emphasizing the importance of a cottage industry-style production.

Employing the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, this rug is woven with a cotton warp and weft, while the pile itself is made of wool. The double wefted technique ensures a robust and durable construction, making this rug capable of withstanding the test of time.

In terms of dyes, this rug proudly showcases the use of all-natural dye stuffs. Centuries-old techniques and knowledge are applied to create the vibrant colors seen in this masterpiece. Additionally, the captivating blue tones are derived from natural indigo dye stuffs, which have a rich history dating back thousands of years and have been widely used across cultures to achieve beautiful, lasting blue hues.

The knots per square inch (KPSI) of this rug are an impressive 104, signifying the intricate skill and attention to detail employed by the weavers. Through careful calculation, we have determined that this rug boasts a total of 379,352 individually hand-tied knots, a testament to the incredible artistry and craftsmanship involved in its creation.

This Afghan Boteh Tribal Rug measures 4'1" x 6'3", making it an ideal size for adding elegance and character to any living space. With its exquisite design, rich colors, and superior craftsmanship, this rug is a true treasure that will delight any rug enthusiast or collector.
