Introducing our exquisite Afghan rug, featuring a contemporary design of butterflies in the sky. This stunning piece originates from Afghanistan and showcases the skilled craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe.

The wool used in this rug comes from sheep raised in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that produces longer staple, high-quality wool. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes hand carding and spinning to create carpet yarn of the finest quality.

Using traditional floor looms in their own homes, these talented weavers employ an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type to meticulously craft the rug. The warp and weft consist of cotton, while the luxurious pile is made entirely of wool. The double wefted and heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique ensures durability, making this rug a superior choice for long-lasting appeal.

The color palette of this rug includes a captivating blue background and a vibrant red border, adding a touch of richness to any space. The blue hue is achieved through the use of natural indigo dye, sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant. With a history that spans thousands of years, indigo dye has been widely cherished across various cultures for its ability to produce vivid blue shades.

Meanwhile, the red color in this rug is obtained from natural madder root dyes. Obtained from the roots of the madder plant (Rubia tinctorum), madder root dyes have been cultivated for centuries to create a range of warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades. This natural dyeing technique has been embraced by numerous cultures throughout history.

Our Afghan rug boasts a knot density of 80 knots per square inch (KPSI), resulting in a meticulously hand-woven masterpiece. By calculating the KPSI, we estimate that this extraordinary rug comprises an impressive 125,346 individually hand-tied knots.

With its impeccable design, exceptional craftsmanship, and elegant color scheme, this Afghan rug is an enchanting addition to any interior. Experience the timeless beauty and cultural heritage of this magnificent piece firsthand, and allow its allure to transform your space.
