Introducing our extraordinary rug, originating from Afghanistan, characterized by its exquisite design known as Harshang. This tribal-style rug boasts a soothing taupe background, perfectly contrasted by a striking red border. The main color of this rug is a beautiful beige, providing a timeless elegance to any space.

Crafted with intricate detail and dedication, this rug is fashioned with the utmost care. It is made from 100% wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool, ideal for carpet weaving.

The wool is hand-carted and hand-spun into luxurious carpet yarn in the western region of Afghanistan, around Herat. The skilled weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, bring this yarn to life on traditional floor looms within their own homes or through cottage industry production.

Employing the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, this rug showcases exceptional craftsmanship. Its foundation consists of cotton warp and weft, while the pile is entirely wool. The double-wefted construction, along with the heavily packed, depressed warp weaving technique, results in a rug that is remarkably durable.

Embedded within the threads of this masterpiece are centuries-old natural dyes. These dyes are derived from madder roots, scientifically known as Rubia tinctorum. Madder root dyes have a long history of being cultivated and used as a dyeing agent. They produce a spectrum of warm and cool shades, including red, orange, pink, and brown.

Measuring 6'2" x 8'10", this rug contains 80 knots per square inch, amounting to a staggering 619,931 individually hand-tied knots in total. Each knot represents the meticulous effort and expertise of the weavers involved in its creation.

Embrace the beauty and heritage of this Afghani rug, available now to grace your home with its timeless charm. Experience the enchantment of handcrafted artistry and the longevity afforded by its impeccable construction.
