Introducing the exquisite rug from Afghanistan, this stunning piece showcases the beautiful design of northwest Persian origins. With a tribal style, the rug features a denim background and a coral border, creating a captivating contrast.
Crafted with the utmost care, this rug is made using high-quality wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain in this region produces longer staple oily wool, perfect for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then carefully brought to Herat on the western side of Afghanistan, where it is meticulously transformed into carpet yarn through the traditional process of hand carding and spinning.
The rug is skillfully woven on traditional floor looms by ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. This cottage industry-based production allows for a personal touch, creating a unique and authentic piece. The asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and the use of a cotton warp and weft ensure durability, making this rug a long-lasting investment.
What sets this rug apart is its all-natural dyeing process. The mesmerizing blue color is achieved using natural indigo dyes, derived from the leaves of the indigo plant. Known for their vibrant hues, these dyes have been used by humans for thousands of years and have a rich history in various cultures around the world.
With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, this rug showcases fine craftsmanship. Based on the KPSI, we have calculated that this item has a total of 180,195 individually hand-tied knots, showcasing the dedication and skill of the weaver.
Measuring 3 '2" x 5 '0", this new rug is truly a work of art that will add elegance and charm to any space.
