Introducing the Pyzryk Design, a magnificent rug inspired by one of the oldest carpets in the world, the Pazyryk rug. Dating back to the 4th-3rd centuries BC, the Pazyryk rug was discovered in the grave of a Scythian nobleman in the Altai Mountains of Kazakhstan. This ancient masterpiece is now housed in the esteemed Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia.

True to its historical roots, our Pyzryk Design incorporates the stunning ribbon pattern found in the middle of the Pazyryk rug, surrounded by a border featuring depictions of deer and warriors riding on horses. Crafted wool on cotton, this tribal-style rug pays homage to the rich heritage of Ancient Armenia, Persia, or Central Asia.

Originating from Afghanistan, this new rug showcases the expertise of ethnic Turkmen weavers, with most belonging to the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in the weaving process is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province, renowned for its high-quality, longer-staple oily wool ideally suited for carpet weaving. In Herat, on the western side of Afghanistan, the wool undergoes the meticulous hand carting and hand spinning process, transforming it into the carpet yarn ready for weaving.

In the hands of skilled craftsmen, using traditional floor looms in their own homes as part of a cottage industry, the Pyzryk Design comes to life. A testament to its durability, the rug features an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a double-wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique. This ensures that this handwoven masterpiece will withstand the test of time.

With centuries-old all-natural dye stuffs, the Pyzryk Design boasts vibrant, striking colors. The mesmerizing blue hues are derived from natural indigo dye stuffs, sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant, while the warm red tones stem from natural madder root dyes. The madder plant, scientifically known as Rubia tinctorum, has a long history of use as a dyeing agent, providing a range of beautiful red, orange, pink, and brown shades.

Measuring 5 '0 " x 5 '0 ", the Pyzryk Design is a testament to the meticulous artistry and expertise of the weavers. With 80 knots per square inch and a grand total of 284,516 individually hand-tied knots, this rug is a breathtaking masterpiece that will add warmth, beauty, and historical significance to any space.
