Originating from Persia, this Sarouk rug exemplifies traditional design elements crafted in the early 20th century. The piece dates back to circa 1920 and features a meticulous weave of wool on a cotton foundation, indicative of its high-quality construction. The base color of this rug is an amber background that contrasts elegantly with its navy border, providing a structured frame to the intricate patterns within.

The primary color palette employed in this rug includes rich yellows that create a warm and inviting visual appeal. Sarouk rugs are renowned for their elaborate curvilinear vine scrolls and arabesques; this particular rug adheres to that tradition with a dense array of floral motifs and geometric patterns. The design does not center on a single medallion but rather unfolds in a harmonious all-over pattern, a style that became prevalent in Sarouk carpets around the 1900s.

The use of high-quality wool imparts a soft, velvety texture to the rug, enhancing both its durability and aesthetic appeal. The thick pile is a characteristic element of Sarouk rugs, contributing to their luxurious feel underfoot. The intricate detailing, from small leaves to petals, showcases the expert craftsmanship synonymous with Persian rug-making traditions.

The outermost border showcases a continuous floral pattern set against a dark navy background. This is complemented by a series of inner borders with varying decorative elements, providing a layered and dimensional look. The darker palette of the borders frames the slightly lighter interior sections effectively, emphasizing the intricate design work.

Overall, the detailed and symmetrical patterns within the rug reflect the classic aesthetics of Sarouk designs, maintaining a balance and consistency throughout. The blend of amber, navy, and yellow tones alongside the high knot density contributes to the rug’s rich texture and visual complexity. This piece stands as a tangible reflection of Persian cultural craftsmanship from the early 20th century.

Last fall, my husband and I purchased a gorgeous silk from you for our Boston Condo. Based on the quality of your rugs and customer service, we decided to visit you again to purchase rugs for our Connecticut home. Luckily, we received your postcard about the tent sale and came home with two more stunning rugs.

I can't say enough good things about this store, especially Susanne and Breanna. I shop at many rug places as I am an interior designer looking for very specific rugs all the time. No one out there compares to this store and their wonderful Sales associates. Thank you Susanne and Breanna for all your help!

Over the past year we purchased three rugs, as well as carpet from L&A. Our experience could not have been more positive and we love what we purchased.

In addition, every single person
in the showroom was beyond helpful, knowledgeable and kind. It was truly a pleasure. Thank you!
