Introducing our exceptional rug from Afghani origin, featuring the timeless serapi design. This transitional style rug showcases a mesmerizing background in the shade of blue raspberry, beautifully complemented by a vibrant red border. Crafted using the finest materials, this rug is made of wool on cotton content, ensuring both quality and comfort.
Measuring at an impressive size of 8'2" X 9'9", this rug boasts a remarkable level of craftsmanship. It originates from the Ghazni Province, located in the mountainous terrain of southeastern Afghanistan. The local ethnic Turkmen weavers, hailing mostly from the Esari Subtribe, utilize wool sourced from sheep in this region, known for its superior, oily, longer staple wool prized for carpet weaving.
The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan near Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and spinning into carpet yarn. Woven on traditional floor looms, often within the weaver's own homes or in a cottage industry setting, this rug is a true testament to the skill and dedication of Afghan artisans.
Employing an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft, this rug is double wefted and features a heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique. This combination results in maximum durability, ensuring that this handwoven masterpiece will withstand the test of time.
Adding to its allure, this rug showcases the remarkable artistry of using all-natural dye stuffs, carrying on the tradition of centuries-old dyeing techniques. The intricate details and intricate patterns are brought to life with the labor-intensive process of individually hand-tying the knots. With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, we have calculated that this rug consists of an astounding 906,189 hand-tied knots in total, showcasing the meticulous dedication that went into its creation.
Own a piece of Afghan craftsmanship with this splendid rug, created by skilled artisans in a region known for its rich weaving heritage. Place it in your home or office space to infuse timeless beauty and elegance into your surroundings.
