Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug, boasting a traditional design known as Khotan Garden. This rug originates from Afghanistan and showcases the skilled craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. Made with wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, renowned for its mountainous terrain that yields longer staple, oily, and high-quality wool for carpet weaving.

The journey of this rug begins with the raw Ghazni wool being transported to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically around Herat. Here, the wool undergoes a meticulous process of hand carding and spinning, transforming it into finely crafted carpet yarn ready for weaving. The weaving itself takes place on traditional floor looms, often within the weaver's homes, showcasing the cottage industry nature of its creation.

Using the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and featuring a cotton warp and weft, this rug is expertly crafted with a wool pile. The double weft and heavily packed depressed warp weaving method employed in its production ensure it is one of the most durable handwoven carpets available today.

A testament to its timeless beauty, this rug is adorned with all-natural dye stuffs that have been used for centuries. The navy background and grape border elegantly complement each other, creating a visually captivating piece. The mesmerizing blue color in this rug derives from natural indigo dye sources, specifically the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria), also known as true indigo. Indigo dye has a rich history spanning thousands of years and has been celebrated for its ability to produce vibrant blue hues.

Measuring 2'6" x 17'7", this rug is sure to make a grand statement in any space. Its impeccable craftsmanship is evidenced by the 80 knots per square inch, with a total of 500,274 individually hand-tied knots in this remarkable piece.

Immerse yourself in the allure of this Afghani rug, where tradition and meticulous craftsmanship intertwine to create an heirloom piece with timeless elegance.
