Introducing a captivating new addition to our collection, this Afghan Village rug from Afghanistan brings together the rich cultural heritage and exquisite craftsmanship of the region. The rugged tribal style of this rug showcases the traditional Afghan village design, with a charming beige background and a striking red border that adds a vibrant touch.

Crafted meticulously by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is a masterpiece of artistry. The wool used to create this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain provides ideal conditions for long staple, oily, and higher quality wool required for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is painstakingly hand carted and hand spun into carpet yarn, ready for the weaving process.

Woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug represents the cottage industry type production that has been a significant part of Afghan culture for generations. The asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, combined with a cotton warp and weft and wool pile, ensures the durability and longevity of this handwoven masterpiece.

Centuries-old dyeing techniques are employed to achieve the warm, captivating hues of this rug. The captivating red color is derived from natural madder root dyes, sourced from the Rubia tinctorum plant. This natural dye has a long history of use in various cultures around the world, producing a range of warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, our meticulous calculations reveal that this rug boasts an impressive 31,611 individually hand-tied knots in total. This attention to detail ensures that the rug not only showcases its stunning design but also stands as a testament to the weaver's skill and dedication.

Measuring 1'4" by 2'1", this Afghan Village rug is a true work of art that will infuse any space with its timeless beauty. A true treasure from Afghanistan, this rug is ready to grace your home with its rich history and captivating craftsmanship.
