Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug, featuring a captivating contemporary design known as "Small Fish." With origins in Afghanistan, this rug showcases the outstanding craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, particularly those from the Esari Subtribe.
The rug is made using high-quality wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. These sheep benefit from the region's mountainous terrain, which naturally fosters the growth of longer staple oily wool, ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and spinning into carpet yarn.
To create this marvel, skilled artisans employ traditional floor looms within the comfort of their homes, embracing a cottage industry approach. The weaving technique utilized is the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, ensuring durability and longevity. The pile is made entirely from wool, while the warp and weft consist of cotton.
With a medium blue background and a grape border, this rug truly stands out. The key element that defines its elegance is the vibrant blue color, achieved using natural indigo dye stuffs. Indigofera tinctoria, or true indigo, extracted from the leaves of the indigo plant, is responsible for this stunning hue. This natural dye has been cherished by cultures worldwide for thousands of years, captivating people with its deep blue tones.
Measuring 2 feet by 3 feet and 2 inches, this new rug is an exceptional addition to any space. It boasts a knots-per-square-inch count of 80, resulting in a total of 72,078 individually hand-tied knots. This meticulous attention to detail ensures a rug that is truly extraordinary.
Embrace the charm of this Afghani rug and let its contemporary design and captivating history enrich your home.
