Introducing our exquisite Afghan Village rug, originating from Afghanistan, known for its rich cultural heritage and skilled craftsmanship. This tribal-style rug showcases a beautiful design, featuring a beige background complemented by a striking brown border. The main color of this rug is beige, creating a neutral and versatile palette that effortlessly blends with various interior styles.

Crafted using traditional techniques by ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is a testament to their exceptional artistry. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, renowned for producing high-quality, long-staple wool. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally lends itself to cultivating wool suitable for carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically around Herat, where it undergoes hand carding and spinning into carpet yarn. This labor-intensive process ensures the utmost quality and authenticity in every strand. Woven on traditional floor looms, typically in the weavers' own homes, this rug represents the cottage industry type of production.

Using the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, this rug is created with a cotton warp and weft, while the pile consists of wool. The weaving technique involves a double-weft construction, resulting in a densely packed, durable carpet that withstands the test of time. Embedded in the rug's roots are centuries-old natural dye stuffs, infusing each fiber with a rich, traditional aesthetic.

Most rugs of this design are woven in Aqucha and Mazar Sharif, incorporating a 2-ply yarn per knot. With an impressive knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, our careful calculations estimate that this rug is comprised of approximately 27,266 individual, hand-tied knots.

Experience the beauty and authenticity of Afghan craftsmanship through this remarkable Afghan Village rug, a true testament to the art form. Explore the elegance of Afghan tradition and bring a touch of cultural heritage to your home with this one-of-a-kind piece.
