Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, featuring the captivating Baluchi design. This tribal-style rug boasts a sky blue background and a vibrant red border, creating a visually stunning piece. Made using traditional techniques, this rug is hand-woven by skilled Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan is of superior quality, thanks to the region's mountainous terrain, which encourages the growth of longer staple oily wool, ideal for carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and spinning into carpet yarn. Utilizing traditional floor looms within their own homes, these weavers expertly create each rug using an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type. The cotton warp and weft provide a sturdy base for the wool pile, resulting in a durable and long-lasting construction.

This rug showcases the centuries-old art of natural dyeing, with the mesmerizing blue color derived from natural indigo dye stuffs. Indigofera tinctoria, commonly known as true indigo or indigo plant, is the source of this ancient dye. Widely used by various cultures worldwide, indigo creates vibrant blue hues that have stood the test of time.

Adding a touch of warmth and richness, the red color in this rug comes from natural madder root dyes. Extracted from the roots of the Rubia tinctorum plant, madder root dyes have been cultivated for centuries and provide a range of beautiful shades, including warm and cool reds, oranges, pinks, and browns. This natural dyeing technique has been extensively used by different civilizations throughout history.

With a knot density of 80 knots per square inch, this rug showcases the meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship of its creation. By calculating the KPSI, we have determined that this rug boasts an impressive total of 889,272 individually hand-tied knots. This labor-intensive process ensures the utmost quality and durability, making this rug a true work of art.

Measuring at 8'1" by 9'8", this new rug combines traditional techniques with exceptional materials to offer a timeless and captivating addition to any space. Experience the beauty and craftsmanship of Afghan rugs with this stunning Baluchi design.
