Introducing our exquisite rug, sourced directly from Afghanistan, specifically known for its beautiful traditional craftsmanship. This contemporary piece features a delightful design of small fish swimming elegantly in a sea of vibrant colors. The background is adorned with a soothing light blue hue, further enhancing the overall aquatic theme. The fuchsia border adds a striking contrast, creating a visually captivating rug.

Crafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is a true testament to their expertise. The wool used in this creation comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain naturally produces longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool for carpet making. The raw Ghazni wool is then brought to the western side of Afghanistan, particularly around Herat, where it is meticulously hand carted and spun into carpet yarn. It is then woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, showcasing the cottage industry production style.

Featuring an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft, this rug boasts the highest level of durability. The double wefted weaving technique and heavily packed depressed warp make it exceedingly sturdy and resilient. Each knot has been meticulously hand-tied by expert artisans, with an impressive knot count of 80 knots per square inch. In fact, we have calculated that this rug contains a remarkable total of 174,188 individually hand-tied knots.

The colors of this rug are derived from natural indigo dye stuffs, specifically sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria). Indigo, one of the oldest known dyes used by humans, has a history dating back thousands of years. It has been revered for its ability to produce vibrant blue hues, which adds a timeless elegance to this exquisite piece.

Measuring 3'2" x 4'10", this rug is perfectly sized for various spaces, adding a touch of sophistication and artistry to any room. Its quality construction and all-natural dye make it a true collector's item, a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Afghan rug-making.
