Introducing our exquisite Harshang rug, originating from Afghanistan. This transitional-style rug features a silver background adorned with a charming blue border, creating an enchanting visual appeal. The design is meticulously crafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, mainly from the Esari Subtribe.

The wool utilized in this rug is sourced from sheep residing in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool, perfect for weaving carpets. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, specifically around Herat, where it undergoes the delicate process of hand-carding and hand-spinning to transform it into a carpet yarn suitable for weaving.

This rug is meticulously woven on traditional floor looms in the comfort of the weavers' own homes, contributing to a cottage industry style of production. The weaving technique employed is an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, resulting in a durable and long-lasting rug. With a cotton warp and weft, the woolen pile ensures a soft and luxurious feel underfoot.

Captivatingly beautiful, this rug showcases centuries-old natural dye stuffs, resulting in stunning shades of blue. The blue color is derived from natural indigo dye stuffs, sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant. Indigo, a dye with a rich history dating back thousands of years, has been employed in diverse cultures worldwide to imbue fabrics with vibrant blue hues.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 104, our calculations estimate that this rug boasts an impressive total of 1,552,719 individually hand-tied knots. Each knot meticulously adds to the rug's overall quality and durability, making it a remarkable piece to grace any interior space.

This new Harshang rug, measuring 9'1" x 11'6", is a true testament to the craftsmanship and artistry of Afghan weavers. Immerse yourself in the beauty of this exquisite rug that combines tradition, quality materials, and timeless design, making it a remarkable addition to any decor.
