Introducing our exquisite Afghani rug of Harshang design, showcasing a captivating fusion of tribal elements and cultural significance. This particular rug features a delightful coral background, complemented by a striking teal border. The main color, a vibrant shade of red, adds depth and warmth to the overall aesthetic. Crafted using traditional techniques, this rug is a testament to the skill and expertise of ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe.

The wool used in this rug comes exclusively from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally yields longer staple, oily wool of superior quality for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is painstakingly hand-carded and spun into carpet yarn. These yarns are skillfully woven into distinctive patterns using traditional floor looms, often within the weavers' own homes or cottage industries.

Employing the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft, this rug boasts a weaver's dedication to detail and durability. The double-wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique ensures that this handwoven carpet is one of the sturdiest available in today's market.

Embracing centuries-old traditions, this rug undergoes a meticulous dyeing process using all-natural dye stuffs. The captivating red hue, derived from natural madder root dyes, adds richness and character to the design. Madder root dyes, obtained from the roots of the Rubia tinctorum plant, have been utilized as a dyeing agent for centuries across various cultures worldwide. These dyes have the capability to produce a range of warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades, enhancing the overall beauty of this rug.

With 80 knots per square inch, this rug exemplifies the intricate craftsmanship employed by the weavers. To provide a glimpse into the sheer dedication behind its creation, we have calculated that this rug consists of a remarkable 625,784 individually hand-tied knots.

This Afghani rug of Harshang design presents a perfect blend of tribal influence, vibrant colors, and exceptional craftsmanship. Its unique story and meticulous construction make it a truly remarkable addition to any interior space.
