Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, this particular piece showcases the renowned harshang design, which is imbued with a tribal style. The background of the rug features a mesmerizing shade of blue, while the border elegantly displays a rust color, creating a captivating contrast. Crafted with precision, this rug is made using high-quality materials, with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, ensuring both durability and comfort.

Originating from Afghanistan, this rug is woven by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari subtribe. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep specifically sourced from the Ghazni Province in southeastern Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool, ideal for carpet weaving.

The process of creating this rug involves bringing the raw Ghazni wool to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat. In this area, the wool is meticulously hand-carted and spun into carpet yarn. Each rug is then woven on traditional floor looms, within the weavers' own homes or cottage industry settings. The unique asymmetrical "Persian" knot type is utilized in the weaving process, ensuring the longevity of the rug.

A distinguishing feature of this rug is its cotton warp and weft, accompanied by an all-wool pile. The double wefted and heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique employed in its creation results in a exceptionally durable handwoven carpet. Furthermore, the colors used in this rug originate from centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs, sourced from the rich heritage of Afghan dyeing traditions.

Meticulously handcrafted by skilled weavers, mostly in the Karam Kul district of Andkhoi, this rug exhibits their expertise, resulting in a higher knot count compared to other regions. The hand-spun, single ply pern knot yarn employed in its weaving further exemplifies the level of craftsmanship put into each knot.

The striking blue color in this rug is derived from natural indigo dye, made from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria). Indigo is one of the oldest known dyes used by humans, with a history dating back thousands of years. With its vibrant blue hues, this natural dye has been cherished and utilized by various cultures worldwide.

To appreciate the craftsmanship involved, this rug boasts an impressive knots per square inch count of 104. Based on this calculation, our skilled artisans have individually hand-tied an astonishing total of 1,183,594 knots, ensuring the rug's intricate and luxurious appearance.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of this stunning Afghan rug, originating from the skilled hands of Afghan weavers. Its tribal design, intricate craftsmanship, and rich history make it a captivating addition to any space.
