Introducing our exquisite Karaja Afghan rug, an authentic tribal piece originating from Afghanistan. This rug showcases the rich heritage and craftsmanship of the ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe.

The vibrant background of this rug features a stunning gold hue, capturing the eye with its warm and inviting tone. The border, on the other hand, showcases a delicate pale blue shade. Together, these colors create a harmonious contrast that adds depth and character to the overall design.

Woven with meticulous care using traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug boasts an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, renowned for its mountainous terrain that produces longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan for hand carding and spinning into carpet yarn.

Every aspect of this rug's construction has been thoughtfully carried out to ensure durability and longevity. Double-wefted and heavily packed with a depressed warp weaving technique, this rug is a testament to the finest handwoven craftsmanship. The cotton warp and weft perfectly complement the all-wool pile, creating a harmonious blend of materials.

Embracing tradition, this Karaja Afghan rug has been dyed using centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs. The captivating blue color seen in this rug is derived from natural indigo dye, sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria). Indigo is one of the oldest known dyes used by humans, with a history dating back thousands of years. Its reputation for producing vibrant blue hues is renowned in cultures worldwide.

Measuring at 8'0" x 9'10", this rug is a true masterpiece, showcasing a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80. Based on this KPSI value, we have determined that this rug consists of an astounding 895,276 individually hand-tied knots. Each knot speaks to the skill and dedication of the weavers who intricately created this work of art.

Transport yourself to the captivating world of Afghan culture with this Karaja Afghan rug. Its rich heritage, exceptional craftsmanship, and timeless aesthetic make it a valuable addition to any space.
