Introducing our exquisite Afghani Khamseh tribal rug, a true gem that showcases the mastery of ethnic Turkmen weavers. This stunning piece originates from the Esari Subtribe and is crafted with utmost care and expertise.

The background of this rug is a captivating ivory, beautifully complemented by a vibrant red border. Made from high-quality wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that produces longer staple, oily wool ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is handcarted and spun into carpet yarn.

Every aspect of this rug is painstakingly created by hand. It is woven on traditional floor looms, with each asymmetrical "Persian" knot delicately tied by skilled artisans. The warp and weft are made of cotton, while the luxurious pile consists of all-natural wool. The double wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique ensures exceptional durability, making this rug a lasting treasure.

Centuries-old natural dye stuffs are used to obtain the gorgeous colors in this rug. The striking red hues are derived from madder root dyes, obtained from the roots of the Rubia tinctorum plant. Madder root dyes have a rich history, having been cultivated for centuries in various parts of the world. They offer a wide range of warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades, adding depth and character to this exceptional rug.

Measuring at 6'2" x 9'0", this rug boasts a remarkable knots per square inch (KPSI) count of 104. Based on our calculations, this translates to an impressive total of 824,986 individually hand-tied knots. Such meticulous craftsmanship ensures the longevity and superior quality of this remarkable piece.

Indulge in the beauty and cultural significance of this Afghani Khamseh tribal rug. Immerse yourself in the artistry and history that it represents, and bring an authentic and timeless touch to your space.
