Introducing our exquisite rug, originating from Afghanistan and boasting a captivating Luri design. This tribal-style masterpiece features a medium blue background and a navy border, accentuating its aesthetic appeal. Crafted with the utmost care, this rug is made of wool on a cotton foundation, ensuring both durability and comfort.

Measuring at a size of 8'5" x 10'2", this rug showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, particularly those from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, known for its mountainous terrain that produces high-quality, longer staple, and oily wool ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to Herat, where it undergoes hand carding and spinning to become carpet yarn, ready to be woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes.

The weaving technique employed in this rug is the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type. Its foundation consists of cotton warp and weft, while the pile is entirely made of wool. The double wefted construction and the heavily packed depressed warp weaving ensure the utmost durability, making this rug a long-lasting and resilient addition to any space.

The charm of this rug extends further with its centuries-old use of all-natural dyes. The captivating blue hue is achieved through the utilization of natural indigo dye, obtained from the leaves of the indigo plant. This dye, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo, has been used by various cultures worldwide for thousands of years, resulting in vibrant blue hues that radiate timeless beauty.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, this rug showcases meticulous attention to detail. By calculating the KPSI of our rug, we estimate that it consists of a remarkable 973,844 individually hand-tied knots in total. This level of craftsmanship speaks to the dedication and skill of the weavers who brought this masterpiece to life.

Indulge in the remarkable beauty and rich history of our Afghan Luri tribal rug, a remarkable piece that will elevate any interior with its cultural significance and timeless allure.
