Introducing our exquisite rug, originating from Afghanistan and featuring a captivating Serapi design. This transitional-style rug boasts a light blue background and a sage border, creating a harmonious and visually pleasing contrast. With its size of 9'1" x 11'10", this rug commands attention and can serve as a stunning centerpiece in any room.

Crafted by talented ethnic Turkmen weavers, mostly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is a true work of art. The wool used in its creation comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain produces longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool, perfect for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and hand spinning into carpet yarn.

Woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug showcases the cottage industry production method, imbuing it with a sense of authenticity and craftsmanship. The asymmetrical "Persian" knot type is skillfully executed, and the cotton warp and weft, combined with the all-wool pile, ensure its durability and longevity. The double wefting and heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique contribute to making this rug one of the most resilient and sturdy handwoven carpets available.

This rug also features centuries-old all-natural dye stuffs, providing a glimpse into the rich history of rug production. The captivating blue hues on this rug, derived from natural indigo dye stuffs, evoke a sense of timelessness and add a touch of elegance to any space. These natural indigo dyes, also known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo, have been used by humans for thousands of years and are known for producing vibrant blue tones.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, our rug showcases the weaver's meticulous attention to detail. In fact, we have calculated that this rug has a staggering 1,223,255 individually hand-tied knots. This level of intricacy and precision truly sets it apart and makes it a must-have for rug enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Embrace the beauty and craftsmanship of this afghani Serapi rug - a testament to the skill and dedication of the Turkmen weavers. Transform your space with its timeless design, impeccable quality, and rich history.
