Introducing the exquisite Afghani rug with a khotan boteh design. This tribal-style rug features a striking red background with a blue border, creating a visually captivating piece. Crafted using traditional techniques by skilled Turkmen weavers, this rug showcases their mastery in carpet weaving.

The wool used in the creation of this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region provides longer staple, oily wool of higher quality. The raw Ghazni wool is then brought to the western side of Afghanistan, particularly around Herat, where it is meticulously hand carted and spun into carpet yarn.

Handwoven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug bears the mark of authentic craftsmanship. Its asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and double-wefted, heavily packed warp weaving make it exceptionally durable.

Natural dye stuffs are utilized to achieve the vibrant colors of this rug. For the blue hues, natural indigo dye stuffs derived from the leaves of the indigo plant are employed. Indigo dye has a rich history dating back thousands of years, and its use in various cultures around the world is well-known.

The red color in this rug is achieved through the use of natural madder root dyes. These dyes, derived from the roots of the madder plant, have been cultivated for centuries and can produce a range of warm and cool red, orange, pink, and brown shades. It is a testament to the time-honored tradition of using natural dyes in rug-making.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 104, this rug showcases the meticulous attention to detail and skilled handiwork of its weavers. In fact, we have calculated that a staggering 1,161,498 individually hand-tied knots went into crafting this beautiful piece.

This captivating Afghani rug, measuring 8'1" x 9'8", is a testament to the rich heritage and craftsmanship of its origin. It is sure to add a touch of elegance and cultural authenticity to any space it adorns.
